Acceptance - Usually when people get asked the question, "What is one thing you would wish for the world?" They answer with world peace, stopping climate change or world hunger. However, when I was asked this question, only one thing came to mind - acceptance. The way we change the world is to stop treating people who are different from ourselves as outcasts. We treat them as people - crazy I know - I dream that we live in a world where our similarities bring us together and our differences don't drive us apart but makes us stronger.

Rocky Balance - I will change the world by keeping society in balance (equality). I'll lift people up from rock bottom. I'll include each rock (person) I find no matter how big or small, young or old, tall or short. One by one in a sea of rocks, I'll provide stability even if some need more than others. If they need a friend, I'll be that friend, if they need some support, I'll be their support. I captured a photo of a diversified stack of rocks to show we are all different, but when treated as equals, we can accomplish the same task.

Honorable Mention - Donnette Kim

Photo 3 - I will change the world by making a stranger smile. My work is a picture of a beautiful barista who would always make me smile. When I would smile, she would smile with me. Her smile is so beautiful and genuine. I realized not many people smile. She inspired me to be the reason people smile and spread the random acts of kindness she gave to me. It made me wonder, what if I can inspire someone to be nice today?  I loved that idea and I've been trying to be that barista in hope it would make someone's day. Just like I'm changing the world. I truly believe that like this, the world would be so much more beautiful.

visual Arts winning entries

S.T.O.P. VA 6 - I chose to make visual art. I decided to make a picture of the planet using trash. I collected this trash on the beach right by my house, Waimanalo Beach. This has to do with how I'll change the world, which is by picking up trash when I see it, and creating less trash. I used the trash to create our planet as that’s one of the main things plastic pollution is hurting. I added the word “STOP” in plastic, which I turned into an acronym, “Stop Torturing Our Planet ''. I placed my art on a piece of cardboard from an old amazon box to help it tie into the “recycled trash” theme of my piece. My art relates to the “I will change the world by..”theme because it shows how I took plastic pollution and not only picked it up, but made art out of it instead of throwing it away. Picking up and recycling plastic pollution helps change the world for the better, because the less plastic pollution, the healthier our planet will become.  It relates to biology because plastic pollution directly affects living organisms, and the behavior of cells.

Accompany - I will change the world by merging orphanages and nursing homes, because children in orphanages have lost love since childhood, and the elderly in nursing homes are lonely because their children are not around. My painting is a simple building with a sense of design, and it is also a combination fo an orphanage and nursing home in my imagination

Music composition winning entries

1st Place - Trevor Hyun - Anamolies in Daydreams

🔗: Anomalies In Daydreams - This piece of music is based on the many thoughts and ideas that us students have that sparks creativity, inspiration, and a desire to change the world. Like dreams, this piece has different movements/sections, each describing a different scene in the daydream. Thereʻs happiness, times of confusion, dismay and resolution. As young adults, weʻre at the peak of our imaginative capabilities being able to imagine and create things that seemed impossible to create before. All itʻll take is just one standout, one "Anomaly in our Daydreams, to spark an impact in our world and change it as a result.

2nd Place - Dylan Sukhabut - Discoveries

🔗: Discoveries- Art. It’s all so different, yet all the same. There are millions of people out there who make art, who make music. Some are acknowledged with reputation, fame, and money. Others simply support the pile of art that those who are praised stand on like a single jewel shining on the top of a mountain of rocks. Who is to say the value of a jewel is more than the value of a rock? A jewel may be a treasure sought out by plenty, but to one who needs a rock to make cement, what value is a jewel? And so what’s art’s purpose? What reason do we as people choose those jewels while some flock to such stones? If it was their talent, those who can play fastest would stand up top. If it was their ability to be unique, there would be no debate over whether or not the music of today was different from the music of yesterday. If it was their words which could move people, the legendary pieces of the past wouldn’t be known for what they are. In that case the purpose of art is how much you can move one person. The reason those choose jewels is because they value it, while others place theirs in rocks. So why should I bother playing fast? Or why would I make anything different from he who came before me? Why give it words if the sound of my fingers dancing across the keys was enough to move a soul? If I could make a song that could allow one person to discover something they needed, that’d be enough for me. I don’t care if I can’t change a million, or even ten different people. All I need is to change one.

3rd Place - Neil Frankel - Outcast

🔗: Outcast - It is meant to bring people together by saying that they werenʻt alone and together we can get through it and change the world.
